November 25th & 26th- Christmas at the end of the road! Come see at the Trail's End Bookstore for Children's story hour at 3:00(Friday). On Saturday sign up for our holiday gift drawing.
December 6- Join us for a special evening of amazing photography with John Scurlock at the Twisp River Pub from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. John’s photos are both documentary and flat out stunning at the same time. In fact, they are so amazing they have been assembled into a new book, Snow & Spire: Flights to Winter in the North Cascade Range. We will there with copies and 10% of our sales that evening will go to the Methow Conservancy.
December 9- Ladies Night on the Town! Come to the Trail's End Bookstore for in-store specials, door prizes, holiday treats and espresso. We will be open late ( until 9:00) along with other Winthrop stores to celebrate the Christmas season.
December10- Join us in the evening for Mountaineers Night with Larry Goldie and Geoff Childs. Larry will be showing slides and talking about mountaineering in the North Cascades, and Geoff Childs will be signing his book, Stone Palaces.Also check out our special mountaineering table with classics and new books from their Mountaineers on climbing, back country skiing, and winter recreation.
March 6- "New Land--North of the Columbia," with speaker Lorraine McConaghy, author and historian with Seattle's Museum of History and Industry, 7:00 – 8:30 at the Twisp River Pub. Co-sponsored by the Methow Conservancy and the Shafer Historical Museum. We will be there with plenty of copies of "New Land--North of the Columbia,"
Book Group News
As part of our winter activities, we’re starting up two new books groups at the store. The first will be facilitated by Charlie Ryan, and its general theme is “Business and Finance” or, as Charlie puts it: “Understanding the Great Recession and How it Will Impact Your Personal Finances(!)” This group is scheduled to meet once a month in the morning (8:30 AM) on the following dates:
Big Short: December 14th, (Wed.)
Possible book—The Futures, by Emily Lambert (or whatever book) January 12th
Third book (Feb. 15)
Fourth book (March 14)
Future dates dependent on schedules and interest level.
The second group, “Let’s Talk About Books,” will be facilitated by Elizabeth Russell and will meet once a month mornings, 8:30 AM, (Elizabeth is open to evenings as well if it is more convenient). This is time to gather and share what you’re reading; fiction, nonfiction, history, memoir, mystery, contemporary issues, finance, whatever it is that interests you. Elizabeth say, “ the idea is to talk about what we’re reading and have the chance to hear about the books our friends are reading we may not have read ourselves ……..but ‘maybe I should give that a read’”.
